Name: Miwok: The name derives from a Central Sierra Miwok word for “people”. Location: Central California, from the coast just north of San Francisco inland southeast of Clear Lake to the central valley and into the Sierra Nevadas. Clothing: Animal skins provided the main source of clothing for the Miwok. The women wore either a two piece skirt of deerskin, grass or shredded tule fabric. The tribes of the northern Coastal Region developed different cultures, but they used natural resources in similar ways. Wealth was important to many of them, and they traded with other tribes.
